Artistic Journey
James grew up in Ohio where his father worked as an illustrator for the US Air Force. Painting and drawing from an early age in a family of artists, James focused on design, forging a successful interior design career with a variety of major brands while at several agencies.
He has lived in Pittsburgh, Boston, Chicago and Cincinnati prior to Provincetown.
Frederick Studio Provincetown was opened in 2015 and was James' primary workspace for 11 years. He now works exclusively in his non-public studio and shows his work via YouTube and pop-up exhibitions.

Creative Philosophy
James paints in representational and expressionism styles as an emotional response to the light and color of his environs on Cape Cod. Using broad confident strokes, he creates an energetic tension between paint and fabric.
He also illustrates unique wood panels depicting Provincetown scenes using acrylic, oil pastel and pencil. James has published multiple comic books and coloring books.
